PLATTNER

When I took over the vineyard from my father, I was in the middle of my winemaking training in Bad Kreuznach. However, my father fell ill shortly before harvest and was incapacitated for months, so I returned home and stayed until he recovered.

What I had learned up until then was not enough for me. Therefore, I decided to gain more experience away from home...

WINE MOMENTS

"For me, the greatest thing is to provide people with pleasurable moments through my wines."

My journey to wine

. . . For a while, I had the opportunity to work with Josko Gravner, one of the best winemakers in Italy, in Friuli. Josko uncompromisingly does what he believes is right, disregarding trends and mass appeal. That deeply inspired me. I returned to South Tyrol with food for thought, asking myself: does it make sense for me to grow Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in my vineyards? After all, these grape varieties grow all over the world and are interchangeable.

As a result, I cleared out these vines and instead began to plant more of South Tyrol’s indigenous grape varieties: Vernatsch, Lagrein, and Rosenmuskateller.

And today…?

. . . I am convinced that it was the right decision. Autochthonous grape varieties describe our home South Tyrol best. And I am happy to share this with my customers.
